After bagging two summits (Exshaw Mountain and Little Lougheed) earlier in the day, there was still sunlight (days are getting longer!!), and we were both eager to get back on skis after over three months of being on pause since Wolverine! We remembered the broad approach trail along Engadine Creek that we followed while snowshoeing up Rummel Ridge the previous month, and decided it would make for a quick evening lap! It hadn't snowed much recently, and our run was consequently quite skied off. Nonetheless, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset, and views that were drastically better than when we completed Rummel Ridge! This, paired with being able to enjoy the descent on skis, made this short outing more than worthwhile, and a great conclusion to a very enjoyable day in the mountains!
Starting up the broad trail, through burnt forest, on the north side of Engadine Creek. (We can actually see The Tower this time!)
Although the majority of the trail is quite gentle, a few steep sections along the way require switch-backing. Photo credit: Dad
The golden, evening sun breaks through the clouds behind us, to the west! Will we actually get some sunset views!?
Gotta get the right angle for those shots! ;) Photo credit: Dad
The sun continued to work its way through the clouds as we climbed.
Now there's a view I've never seen before! Cone Mountain (left) rises impressively across the south end of Spray Lake!
Sunny :)
Before we knew it, our whole slope was bathing in beautiful, evening light!
I ventured off the trail, through the burnt trees above Engadine Creek, to see what other views we missed out on last month.
Wow! Commonwealth Peak, Pig's Tail, and Mount Birdwood, rise majestically above Pig's Back to the south!
Tent Ridge's long horseshoe shape (with Tent Ridge North Summit on the far-right end), stretches out below the barely visible Mount Smuts and The Fist to the left!
More pretty lighting along the trail.
Skinning up the final few meters before making the transition and finally skiing again!! We would've gone a bit further (until the trail starts sidehilling towards Rummel), but we still wanted some evening light to ski in, and the sun was setting rapidly! Photo credit: Dad
Our final glimpse of sunlight, as the sun disappears behind the mountains. Mount Assiniboine is even visible, rising into the clouds beyond Mount Turner (left)!!
Ski time! The conditions weren't anything special...But hey! We're skiing again! :)
Wow, I almost forgot how much faster skis are! We made it down from our short run just before dark, excited to start a full day on skis the next morning! What a day! :) Photo credit: Dad
